Roberts three-hits Onalaska in 2-0 Longhorn victory
TARKINGTON — Needing a huge start from pitcher Kamden Roberts on Friday night at home, the Tarkington Longhorns got that and then some.
The right-hander pitched brilliantly by throwing a three-hit shutout and Tarkington scored two runs in the third inning for a 2-0 victory over the Wildcats.
The victory moved the Longhorns into a tie for first place with Onalaska, as Roberts finished with 10 strikeouts on the night and walked only one.
The game was scoreless until Tarkington struck in the third inning.
Lance Hawthorne singled and then promptly stole second base. Hawthorne then moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Bryan Mills then walked and moved to second as a pitch hit Caleb Schmidt. Keaton Lamberth then singled to plate Mills to extend the lead to 2-0.
Mills doubled in the fifth but would be stranded at third.
With a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning, Roberts picked up a couple of strikeouts in the frame to finish Onalaska off and move the Longhorns to 7-2 in district.
Tarkington will host New Waverly at home on Friday night.
