Family History Day at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center
Liberty — Have you ever wondered how to take care of your family’s treasures, like old photographs, letters, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings and journals? Have you ever wondered how to learn more about the ancestors in those heirlooms? Now is your chance to learn how to discover and preserve of your family’s history. The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty, part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, will be hosting on Saturday, March 30, a one-day family history workshop designed for new and advanced genealogists and people who are interested in learning how to keep their historic records safe.
TSLAC staff will provide sessions on finding your ancestors’ stories within SHC and TSLAC collections and on basic preservation of paper-based materials. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own family treasures to get expert advice about their care. Pre- registered participants will receive a free preservation kit. The Center’s primary mission is to collect, preserve and provide access to historically significant state and local government records and publications of the designated region and secondarily to serve as a library of Texana and genealogical resources.
