Cleveland Rotary celebrates 40th year of Tournament

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Rotary Club members gathered for a ceremony last Thursday morning at the Hal Mc-Clelland Sports Complex to celebrate the 40th year of the Tournament.
The organization donated a special bench near the sports complex entrance to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Rotary’s annual baseball and softball tournament at Cleveland High School.
The black bench signifies the dedication of the Rotary Club to the Tournament. A short presentation was given by West Smith, President of the Rotary Club.
The Tournament and Rotary Club has given over $400,000 in scholarships throughout the years, and this year, it hopes to donate over $20,000 worth of scholarships.
“This has been a great event, and last year we donated over $18,000,” said Smith.
The new facility has attracted even more people and brings lots of talent to the baseball and softball fields. The games had already started for the Tournament as the ceremony was being held.
“With this tournament, we have been able to help the youth in Cleveland, Tarkington, and Shepherd,” said Smith.
Also in attendance were Cleveland Mayor Danny Lee and Superintendent of Cleveland ISD Stephen McCanless.
