Betrayed by Love

THOUGHTFUL THINGS

When a close friend or loved one has betrayed our trust, and we don’t know where to turn, we cling to God, our Rock and our Refuge in times of trouble. Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock (Isaiah 26:4).

Jesus predicts his betrayal three times in the New Testament. This prediction takes place during the Last Supper in Matthew 26:24–25, Mark 14:18–21, Luke 22:21–23, and John 13:21–30. The truth is that Jesus was betrayed by two of His disciples: Judas and Peter.

Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

We have all experienced betrayal at sometime in our lives if we have ever trusted anyone. Trust is hard to give and certainty hard to gain once it has been betrayed. The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies. Betrayal hurts because someone you love and care about chose to hurt you. When you have put such a large emotional investment into a person and only for them to turn around and cause you suffering, you feel as though you lost a part of yourself. This feeling of heartbreak is normal for a short duration.

Take the pulse of the relationship as you give adequate space, time, and intention to heal what’s been broken, forgiving yourself and others. Realize that your healing may manifest over time (Luke 17:14). Welcome the Lord’s discernment to unveil His highest hopes for you and the connection that has suffered betrayal. God can and will heal the broken and bruised. Forgiveness is for you. Luke 6:37. “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Jesus taught, “If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you” (Mt 6:14). Peter asked Jesus how often it is necessary to forgive, and Jesus replied, “Seventy-seven times” (Mt 18:22), a number to be taken symbolically, not literally, for the never- ending way that we ought to forgive.

So, whatever you may be going through, remember God is always there to guide you and give you the strength that you need to over come! Love conquers all.
