Democrat for Railroad Commissioner makes stop in Liberty County

DAYTON — Political meet and greets are in full swing of late, and while Liberty County remains a Republican stronghold, it doesn’t mean Democrats at the state level can’t beat the bushes looking for votes.

Saturday, Bill Burch, Democrat candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission, stopped off for a campaign event at Los Compadres in hopes of contacting local voters ahead of the Tuesday, March 6 Democrat Party Primary.

“I want to encourage Liberty County voters to consider qualifications over party affiliation,” said Liberty County Democrat Party Chairman Michael Mark.

Burch is one of two Democrats on the ballot, positioning themselves to face the winner of the Republican Primary, which features incumbent Christi Craddick.

The three-member commission is the governing agency that oversees the oil and gas industry, gas utilities, pipeline safety, and surface coal and uranium mining.

“Bill Burch is the only candidate who has actually worked in the oilfield, and he is not trying to destroy the oil industry in Texas but wants to make it safer and more efficient,” Mark said.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Burch is an energy consultant who received his bachelor’s from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his graduate studies in Petroleum Engineering at Louisiana State University.

According to Mark, Burch has worked globally in 60 countries and throughout the United States.
