BAYTOWN — The Dayton Lady Broncos put together a magical playoff ride in 2023 before coming short of reaching the State Tournament, and 2024 should bring high expectations.

On Tuesday night in Baytown, the Lady Broncos got some work against an opposing team in the Goose Creek Memorial Lady Patriots, and the purple and white walked away on top 2-1.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Lady Broncos scored a pair of runs.

Mika Anthony-Conner started the inning with a single and then moved to second on a single by Bella Barziza.

Ariana Zuniga followed with a walk and then Anthony-Conner would come around to score for a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Barziza scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The Lady Patriots cut the deficit to 2-1 with a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Jess Woods would shut the door on Goose Creek Memorial in the fifth inning and that would be the end of the scrimmage.

Woods finished with four strikeouts and Madi Alvarado struck out one in her two innings on the hill.

Barziza led the offense with two hits.

Dayton will return to action on Friday as they take part in a three-team scrimmage with Crosby and Liberty at the Lady Cougars field.
