McKinney announces candidacy for Liberty County Sheriff

Curtis W. McKinney, 54, has officially announced his candidacy for the office of Liberty County Sheriff against incumbent Bobby Rader in the Republican Party Primary.

“I want my Mayberry back,” McKinney said.

As sheriff, McKinney wants to focus on getting rid of drugs in the communities of Liberty County. To help reach that goal, McKinney plans to establish a missionary program designed to work with repeat drug offenders.

According to McKinney, he hopes to open a chapel in the jail for inmates to help cultivate a new culture of hope. That program would include connecting with local churches, especially for first-time drug offenders.

“Get Jesus in their heart and the Bible in their hands,” said McKinney.

McKinney was born in Pasadena, Texas, and raised in Deer Park, Texas, where he became an Eagle Scout in 1987. He has been a resident of Liberty County since 2005.

If elected, McKinney wants to work closely with the Commissioner’s Court to find solutions and create a program to help fix roads.

“I am for what sticks, stick to God’s plan, stick it to the criminal, and to the rule of law,” is McKinney’s motto.
