    Barbara Fielden Robertson, 1934-2019

Barbara Fielden Robertson passed away on Aug. 28 following a stroke. Barbara was born on Sept. 5, 1934 in Abilene, Texas, to Estelle and Virgil Fielden. With her siblings, Edith and V.A., she grew up a “preacher’s kid” as her father moved around from one Baptist church to another throughout East Texas.

Barbara met the love of her life, Charles D., when her father was the pastor of First Baptist of Fairfield, Texas. Charles swept her off her feet and the two were inseparable until Charles’ passing in 1998.

Barbara — or Mrs. Robertson — taught first grade to multiple generations of Liberty students for over 60 years. Most remember her bringing one of her poodles to school (Lagniappe was a favorite) and showing off when they made bone-shaped cookies for the class.

She loved shopping (especially at All That Glitters), watching Downton Abbey, and lunches out with her best friend, Gail Gatewood Wilson, who was like a daughter to her.

Along with Gail and her husband Curtis of Beaumont, Barbara is survived by her brother, V.A. Fielden and sister-in-law Jan of Fairfield; her sister, Edith Fielden Tinnes and brother-in-law Sherman of Aiken, South Carolina; nieces, Christy Tinnes Volpe and husband Frank of Annapolis, Maryland; and Cindy Tinnes Purvis and husband David of Granville, Ohio; nephew, David Fielden and wife Pam of Fort Worth, Texas; grand-nieces, Lacey, Holly and Ashley Purvis  of Granville, Ohio; and last, but not least, her precocious poodle, Beau Robertson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at Heights Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Visitation will precede the service at 1 p.m.  Burial will follow.

The family has heard story after story from former students about how special Barbara was. We will be working with the Liberty Independent School Foundation to setup a memorial so that future students can benefit from the magic of Mrs. Robertson.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Liberty ISD Education Foundation / Barbara Robertson Fund for Creative Teaching.
