The Fruit of Summer

  • Article Image Alt Text

This summer has been so hot that our poor AC unit’s can’t keep up, but I am thankful for the cold air we do get from them! Even in what seems like a dreary situation we can always find joy! The Bible tell us in Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

We must always look to find the fruits of the spirit in our summertime.

Summer brings fun opportunities for laughter and happiness – the picnics, the vacations, and the get-togethers. Time with family and friends. Time to focus on what is important and what helps us heal. What give sis joy!

Joy grows from a deep place in our souls where we meet with God honestly and humbly. A place where we learn more about Him and how our relationship can grow stronger. In this place we discover a peace that is ‘beyond all understanding’ (Philippians 4:7). Through this peace we can begin to experience a joy that is not dependent on the happenings of the moment – because our strength is not in ourselves, but in Christ.

Summer is a great time for us to experience the joy that living in Christ brings us, allowing us to enjoy all that God provides. As we experience God’s joy through the beauty of nature, the sound of children’s laughter, or recounting a funny story with friends and family, be sure to share it. Our joy is multiplied when we do.

It may seem that easy summers are long gone. However, we can make it through the hectic days and stay at peace despite the chaos. God promises He will help us with whatever we face: “The LORD gives his people strength. The LORD blesses them with peace” (Psalm 29:11). There are several keys to God’s peace overriding the mayhem. When we remember to focus on God’s sweet goodness, instead of all the scribbles on our calendar, we can proactively manage our summertime. We can receive God’s calm, even in a busy and sometimes stressful time of the year. We can produce the fruits of the spirit everyday and allow God to use us. As we find our joy we can then help others to find joy. Be a friend to someone today and share a little sunshine with them.
