Promises are Forever

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

The Bible is the word of God and is powerful and life changing. The promises of God start with 2 Timothy 3:16 it says All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: God tells us that all Scriptures in the Bible are inspired by God. With this promise of God in hand we can then be assured that what we learn in the Bible is from God.

What does promise mean in the Bible? Definition of promise is a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified. A legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect or to claim the performance or forbearance of a specified act.

In a changing world where vows are often broken, God always keeps His word. In the Bible, we learn Sarah was 90 years old when God told her husband Abraham, “I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her” (Gen. 17:16). Abraham considered this so unlikely, he laughed.

But God was faithful to His word. Our world today places little value on words. We’ve seen politicians retract campaign commitments once they’ve taken offi ce. Though many “swear to tell the truth” in court, others resort to lying for self-preservation. Just like Abraham, it’s difficult to know whom and what we can trust. THE FATHER ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES—THE SAME TODAY AS HE DID IN THE DAYS OF THE BIBLE.

Thankfully, there is One who keeps His word and never changes. As Hebrews 10:23 tells us, “[God] who promised is faithful.”

Yet some people become discouraged because they fail to see results after asking for His assurance. We can avoid frustration by understanding how Scripture teaches us to claim His promises.

First, be aware that some promises are limited to a certain situation. God told Abraham he would have a son. However, Genesis 17:16 is not a promise we can claim for ourselves, as it was meant specifically for the Jewish patriarch.

Second, many promises are intended for all believers, such as God’s assurance that He’ll never leave us (Heb. 13:5). Third, some promises are conditional. For example, the guarantee of Psalm 37:4 requires obedience: “Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

IF WE CLAIM THE LORD’S PROMISES WITH A RIGHT SPIRIT AND PURE MOTIVES, WE WILL HONOR HIM, RECEIVE WHAT WE ASK, AND GROW IN INTIMACY WITH OUR LOVING FATHER.

No matter what your circumstance, God’s Word has a promise of hope waiting for you.

You can try to figure out a way to encourage yourself, or you can say with the psalmist.

But as for me, I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. — Psalm 71:14 Please visit The Family Church 9456 Hwy 146N Hardin, TX or live on facebook @tfchardin.
