Living Life in the Rearview

THOUGHTFUL THINGS

The Family Church - Hardin, TX

We have all heard the phrase that hindsight is 20/20, and I am sure that you have said it many times yourself in certain circumstances in your life. But what we forget at times is that if we live life looking back as if we are looking in a rear-view mirror, then we may miss the opportunities that have we have been given. Or miss out on relationships that could have been mended but we missed our chance because we were too busy living in the rear view.

Philippians 3:13 - Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before It is hard to drive forward looking in the rear-view mirror. Obviously, trying to drive a car forward while looking backwards can be an ineffective and dangerous thing to do. Most people trying to drive while looking in the rear-view mirror end up crashing!

The saying is an analogy for the difficulty we face when we live today while being preoccupied with events from yesterday. Unfortunately, many of us try to live each day as well as we can while carrying the burdens of things that have happened to us in our past. We must live life one moment at at time and allow God to guide us as we embark on each new day.

The Bible tells us in Luke 9:62. “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

People who live in the past find it difficult to accept and embrace change. They are holding onto their wellestablished routines, familiar places, and the people they’ve known for ages. They simply don’t want to grow and leave their comfort zones. They want things to remain the same. But that is inevitable. The Bible teaches us that to everything there is a season. Change is good when you allow God to lead and guide you.

When you choose to follow God and stop living life in the rear view. Happy New Year and I pray many blessings to you and your family. Visit us in service at The Family Church 9456 Hwy 146 Hardin, TX or online via Facebook at @ tfchardin.
