The Easter Story

THOUGHTFUL THINGS

What is the Easter Story? We say “story” when in fact it is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, three days after he was executed by crucifixion.

The Bible tells us in Matthew 27 that it is record of the day of the trial, crucifixion and burial of Jesus. Jesus had prophesied of his death in Matthew “ from that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”

Jesus understood that his life would be required as a sacrifice for the sins of man.

The Bible states how Jesus made a triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Shortly after, His apostle Judas agreed to betray Jesus and deliver Him to the chief priests for thirty silver pieces. How Jesus was arrested by the Roman authorities because he claimed to be the “Son of God”. He was then sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate, the Roman emperor by crucifixion. His resurrection three days later marks the occasion of Easter. Without the resurrection Jesus was just another man. Without the resurrection, there would be no Christianity. The resurrection changed the world. More personally, Jesus’ death and resurrection accomplished Forgiveness for all mankind, because we have all sinned and come short of the Glory of God. Jesus died on the cross and took the punishment that we deserve. He conquered death to forgive us for our sins. Jesus paid our ransom. Jesus proved that death is not the end! The resurrection gives us hope and a future that is beyond this world.

The resurrection is the most powerful truth, and it’s the basis for our faith.

Happy Easter and my prayer for you is: May God bless you and keep you, make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, and may God give you peace.
