Rayburn slips past Dayton 48-43 in overtime
PASADENA — They needed overtime to decide a winner on Thursday afternoon at Sam Rayburn High School as the Dayton Broncos and the Texans battled even for four periods before Rayburn won the overtime period and the game 48-43 in non-district action.
The first period went to the Texans as they outscored the Broncos 15-13, and then a bucket by Donahvan Thibodeaux just before the half tied the game at 23-apiece.
The second half was nip-and-tuck as a bucket by Thibodeaux gave Dayton a 25-24 lead.
Thibodeaux then went to the offensive boards and scored and the Broncos led 28-27.
Tied at 28, Hunter Leonard nailed his fourth three-pointer of the game and the advantage was up to 31-28.
Braeden White added two more points from the lane and Dayton was in front 33-28.
Rayburn didn’t go quietly and went on a 10-2 run to reclaim the lead at 38-35.
Dawson Victorian would even things up for the Broncos with a trifecta from downtown to make it 38-38.
The Broncos reclaimed the lead again at 41-38 thanks to another Victorian three-pointer.
The Texans ended the period on a 5-2 run to send the game into the extra period.
Dayton did have a chance to win the game in regulation, but their shot was just off its mark.
Rayburn then outscored Dayton 7-2 in overtime to get the win.
Leonard led the Broncos in scoring with 14 points and Thibodeaux added 10. Victorian finished with 8 points.
