Port Aransas takes down H-D 45-37 in semifinals
It has been a magical season for the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats and Head Coach Trent Wallace on the hardwood. On Tuesday night in Needville, foul trouble plagued the Bobcats throughout the night and Port Aransas took full advantage of that in a 45-37 in a Class 2A Regional Semifinal game. In the first half, Hull-Daisetta put the defensive clamps on the Marlins and held them to just 13 first-half points. Bobcats star point guard Braedyn Rayon scored the first two buckets of the night for Hull-Daisetta, and the score was tied at 4. Late in the first quarter, Rayon connected from downtown, and the Bobcats led 7-4 heading into the second period. Adrian Eaglin then hit a three-pointer early in the second quarter to push the advantage to 10-4. Port Aransas then went on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to one and then De’Vante Broussard answered with a nice spin move for two to make it 14-11. A few minutes later, Eaglin hit another three-pointer, and the lead was up to 17-13, and then Landyn Sellers finished off a great first half for the Bobcats with a steal and score, and Hull-Daisetta enjoyed a 19-13 lead at the break. The Marlins cut the deficit to 21-19 midway through the third quarter until Eaglin hit his third three-pointer of the night to build the lead back to 24-19. Port Aransas then started to take advantage of foul trouble with Rayon and Broussard, both sitting with four questionable fouls and trailed by only two at 27-25, heading into the fourth quarter. The Marlins then opened the final period by taking their first lead of the game since early in the first quarter as Kyler Spaeth nailed a three-pointer and Port Aransas led 28-27. After another trey game, the Marlins a four-point lead, Broussard scored off an assist from Gerard Eaglin to cut the lead to 31-29. Port Aransas then scored the next four points to take their biggest lead of the night at 35-29. Eaglin then scored on a drive, and then Landyn Sellers connected from downtown, and the Bobcats were staying close at 38-34. Down 40-34, Rayon then made the play of the night by getting a block at one end and then hitting a three-pointer at the other to cut the deficit to 40-37 with 1:05 left in the game. After a timeout, the Marlins then used some clock, and then Sydney Hemdon hit a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to put the game away for Port Aransas. Rayon led Hull-Daisetta in scoring with 12 and Eaglin added n. Broussard and Sellers each finished with six points apiece. Once again, I just want to say congratulations on a fantastic season for the Bobcats that sure was fun for me to watch in the playoffs.
