Playoff time has arrived around the diamond
Now that the regular season has come to a close, playoff ball is set to get underway on the softball and baseball diamond and local schools are well represented.
The ladies are up first with play beginning this week, and three programs look to make something happen, as Liberty, Dayton and Hull-Daisetta are poised for action.
The Liberty Lady Panthers finished district play undefeated and will enter the playoff s with a 22-5 season record.
Liberty’s only losses in the regular season came from Class 5A and 6A teams this year. The Lady Panthers will be playing in the tough Division I, and a match-up against Bullard could be looming in the second round.
The Lady Panthers will meet with Yates on Thursday night in Anahuac for a onegame playoff at 6 p.m.
For the Dayton Lady Broncos, this is the 17th straight year they have entered the playoffs. Dayton will be playing in Class 5A Division II.
The Lady Broncos will toil with one of the best programs in Texas, Lake Creek and they will play a best-ofthree- game series. Game one is set for 5 p.m. Friday at West Fork High School and game two is 30 minutes after the first game ends. Details will be announced if a third game is necessary.
The Hull-Daisetta Lady Cats will enter the postseason as a Class 1A Region III representative. HD will have a big opportunity to make some noise at the 1A level.
On the baseball side of things, we could have up to four teams making the state playoffs.
The Lady Cats will have an opening- round bye to start the postseason and will get to work next week in the second round of play.
The Liberty Panthers will make a trip to the playoffs again under Head Coach Wesley Kutac. Liberty has had an outstanding season, including a sweep of the Huffman Falcons in district play.
The Hardin Hornets took care of business on Tuesday night, securing a playoff spot and third place in the district.
The Dayton Broncos came up with a big win over Crosby and they will wrap up the regular season on Friday at home against the Cougars before heading to the playoffs.
We also know the Hull-Daisett a Bobcats are heading to the playoffs and they will compete in Class 1A.
If Tarkington can beat Livingston on Friday they would be tied for the final spot and have to play a one game tiebreaker.
