Liberty's season comes to an end against Bridge City
MONT BELVIEU — The Liberty Panthers baseball team saw their season come to an end on Friday night at Barbers Hill High School in game two of the Bi-District round.
Bridge City scratched out single runs in the first, second, and seventh innings and then put up two runs in the fourth, taking a 5-0 win.
The Cardinals took game one Thursday night at Lamar University 7-2 to lead 1-0 in the series.
Zander Davila got the start for Liberty and pitched into the fourth inning. Gage Pavliska came in for relief and finished things up on the mound for the Panthers.
Bridge City led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning when the Panthers would get their first base runner as Kade Jordan reached via a walk but was stranded on base.
The Cardinals got some insurance runs in the fourth frame when they put two runners across home plate to lead 4-0.
Liberty would get a couple of base runners on in their last at-bat. Grady Silva singled, and then Kenan Clevenger singled with a line drive just past second base to put a couple of runners on base.
The Bridge City pitcher then induced a double play ball on the next hitter to put a halt to the threat.
In the Panthers first year under Head Coach Wesley Kutac, they beat Splendora last Saturday to get into the playoffs and played district champion Bridge City tough. Congratulations to Liberty on a very successful season.
