Liberty grabs final playoff spot with 4-2 win
HUFFMAN — Senior Grady Silva came up clutch on Saturday afternoon at Huffman High School as Liberty and Splendora locked heads for the final playoff spot in district play. Silva struck out 10 and allowed just two hits on the day, and the Panthers grabbed the final playoff spot with a 4-2 win over the Wildcats.
Liberty will now face Bridge City in a best twoout- of-three series starting Thursday night at Lamar University.
The Panthers moved in front 1-0 with a run in the top of the second inning, only to have Splendora put up a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to lead 2-1.
The score stayed the same until the fifth inning as Kenan Clevenger and Leyton Kirkland each had RBI singles to give Liberty the lead for good at 3-2.
In the sixth inning, Ethan Hofmeister had a bunt single to score Kade Jordan to make the score 4-2.
The Panthers finished with 10 hits. Caden Mullinix, Clevenger, and Jordan all had two hits each.
