Liberty clinches playoff spot in 10-1 route of Anahuac
LIBERTY— It was a big night for the Liberty Panthers soccer team on senior night in front of a friendly crowd at Memorial Stadium. The Panthers scored seven goals in the second half in pounding the Anahuac Panthers 10-1.
Liberty clinched a playoff spot in the state playoffs under boys’ first-year Head Coach Liam Farrington with the win.
Christian Quintinilla recorded a hat trick for the Panthers, and Christopher Jimenez added two goals and an assist.
Liberty started the scoring just seven minutes into the contest as Jimenez scored off an assist from Dayron Salcedo to make it 1-0. In the 19th minute, Salinas scored his first goal and the Panthers lead was 2-0.
Just four minutes later, Salinas blasted a shot past the Anahuac goalie and Liberty led 3-0 at the break.
The second half saw Liberty explode. Just a minute into the half, it was Salcedo scoring with the assist going to Bryan Castillo and the score was 4-0.
Quintinilla then displayed his talent for the next score by putting on a dribbling exhibition and shooting it into the nets for the score and the 5-0 advantage.
In the 7th minute, Castillo found the nets to make it 6-0.
Just a minute later, Anahuac would get on the scoreboard with a breakaway goal to cut the deficit to 6-1.
Liberty responded two minutes later with a Jose Franco score and a 7-1 lead.
Calvin Lopez assisted on the next goal with a nice pass to Jimenez, who put it away in the 20th minute for an 8-1 score.
Liberty was not done scoring as Humerto Martinez scored in the 32nd minute, and then the final goal came on a Daniel Baccera shot in the 38th minute for the 10-1 final.
Liberty will return on March 19 when they host the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns.
