Lady Cougars trip up Lady Indians
DAYTON - After a tough opening contest at the Dayton Varsity Tournament, the Cleveland Lady Indians put up a battle in game two before falling to Crosby 25-7 and 25-16.
In the opening game, the Lady Cougars jumped out 6-1 before a kill by Emori Edwards- Shedd made it 6-2.
Crosby then went on a 5-1 run to extend their lead to 11-3, which forced a Cleveland timeout. The Lady Cougars kept playing the net game and increased their advantage to 20-6 until a kill by Kimori Smith cut the deficit to 20-7.
Crosby then finished game one to move ahead 1-0 in the match.
The second game saw the Lady Indians jump out to a 5-0 lead thanks to a kill by Smith and three straight aces by Brooke Brandon. Later in game two, Cleveland extended their advantage to 12-8 thanks to four consecutive aces by Edwards-Shedd.
The Lady Cougars responded with a 9-2 run to move ahead 17-14 before a kill by Edwards-Shedd made it 17-15. Moments later, another kill by Edwards-Shedd kept the Lady Indians close at 18-16.
That would be as close as Cleveland would get the rest of the way, as Crosby ended the match on a 7-0 run.
The Lady Indians will return to action at home on Friday as they host Caney Creek.
