Lady Broncos rally for 4-3 win over K-Park

HUMBLE — Madi Alvarado, Anevay Cantu, and Brooke Maddy all had RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Dayton Lady Broncos finished as the No. 3 seed in District 16-5A on Monday night with a 4-3 victory over Kingwood Park.

After the Lady Broncos 4-0 win over Kingwood Park on Friday night at home, both teams were tied for 3rd place, forcing the game in Humble to decide the seeding heading into the playoff s.

Dayton jumped in front in the bottom of the first inning as Ava Horrell tripled and then scored on a Bella Barziza single to move the Lady Broncos in front 1-0.

The score stayed the same until the Lady Panthers scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Back came Dayton to regain the lead in the bottom half of the frame. Barziza walked and then moved to second on a single by Ariana Zuniga. Itzel Gonzalez followed with a walk to load the bases. Alvarado, Cantu, and Maddy all came up big with hits, and the Lady Broncos led 4- 2 heading to the sixth inning. T h e L a d y P a n t h e r s cut the Dayton lead in half with a run in the sixth inning, and the score was 4-3.

Alvarado, who entered the game for winning pitcher Jess Woods in the sixth inning, retired Kingwood Park in the seventh inning, and the Lady Broncos had another win and improved to 23-10 on the season.

Woods finished with three strikeouts, and Alvarado added two more to get the save.
