Hardin wins season opener
Down 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Hardin Lady Hornets exploded for ten runs in the fourth inning and went on to take a season-opening 12-7 win over the Anahuac Lady Panthers.
Anahuac scored two runs in their first at-bat and then added four more in the third inning to lead 6-0. Hardin then went to work in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Taylor Knight started things off with a single, then Emmah Hebert followed with a single, Alissa Aragonez then walked to load the bases.
Kaitlyn Key made it 6-1 with a single, and then Audrey Schulz singled to score two more runs to cut the Anahuac lead in half.
Madison Holman then had an infield hit, and bases were loaded again. Trinity Mefferd then had a run-scoring single, and the deficit was down to 6-4.
Kenadi Frauenberger was then hit-by-a-pitch, and the lead was down to one. Knight then lifted a fly ball to center field to plate Holman, and the game was tied at 6-apiece.
Hebert then gave Hardin a 7-6 lead with another single, and then Key delivered the big hit of the inning with a tworun double, and the Lady Hornets led 10-6.
After Anahuac scored a run to cut the lead to 10-7, Hardin added two more in the sixth inning to put the game away. Hebert had a run-scoring single, and then Key grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Hebert to make it a 12-7 game.
Reese Parker struck out 8 in getting the complete-game win on the mound. Key led the Lady Hornets at the plate with three hits and four RBI’s.
Hebert also had three hits and two RBI’s while scoring three runs. Knight added two hits while Schulz had a pair of RBI’s. Hardin will travel to Hull-Daisetta on Friday night.
