Hardin stays perfect in district
WINNIE - Freshman Hunter Whitehead continued his dominance on the mound against East Chambers on Monday night in Winnie by allowing no-hits in four innings of work while striking out seven and the Hardin Hornets stayed perfect in district at 4-0 with a 12-2 victory over the Buccaneers in five innings.
Two errors and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for Hardin in the top of the first inning. Jordan Hendricks then singled to score Grayson Creel and Cody Turner to make it 2- 0. Korey Newkirk followed with another RBI by reaching on an error and then Lleyton Berry walked with the bases loaded for another run and a 4-0 lead. Parker Buffington then scored two more with a double and the Hornets advantage was 6-0.
East Chambers scored a run in the bottom half of the frame to make it 6-1 before Hardin came back with two more in the second. Whitehead lifted a pop fly single to score both Turner and Jacob Wells and the score was 8-1.
The Hornets put the game away with three more runs in the fifth, keyed by a two-run single by Hendricks and the advantage was 12-1.
Hendricks led the bats with two hits and three RBIs. Buffington added two hits and a pair of RBIs.
Hardin will visit Kountze on Friday.
