Hardin baseball has tough week in losses to Buna and Kountze
HARDIN - It was a tough week for the Hornets baseball team last Tuesday night at home. Hardin hosted Buna, and the Cougars scored six runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game to win 9-2.
Buna scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 3-0.
Six more runs crossed the plate for the Cougars in the sixth to make the score 9-0. Hardin did push across a couple of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jacob Wells drove in Lahr Randolph with a groundout to make it 9-1 and then Grayson Creel scored on a passed ball and the score was 9-2.
Creel and Parker Buffington each had hits for the Hornets. Hardin traveled to Kountze on Friday night and fell to the Lions 13-2. The Hornets committ ed eight errors which led to 11 Kountze unearned runs.
The Lions scored six runs in the second inning to move in front 6- 0 before Hardin put up a couple of runs in the third. Cody Turner singled home Blain Thornton for a run and the score was 6-1. With the bases loaded, Wells was hit- by- a- pitch to plate Hunter Whitehead to make it 6-2. Kountze ended in the bottom half of the frame with three runs to up their advantage to 9-2 and then put the game away with four runs in the fourth. Whitehead and Wells handled the mound duties for the Hornets.
Turner and Lleyton Berry had the hits for Hardin.
The Hornets will host Kirbyville on Thursday night.
