Dayton High School students attended the Business Professionals of America 2024 National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois, May 10-14.

The conference brought together over 6000 delegates from across the country, Puerto Rico, and China to vie for top honors in business and information technology skills competitions.

Melissa Luter, Advisor, stated, “While in Chicago, the students had opportunities to network with other BPA students and explore the sites of Chicago. We ate Chicago-style pizza and Chicago-style hot dogs. Reviews were mixed, to say the least. The students did enjoy the walking tours to view the variety of styles of architecture in downtown Chicago. We also visited the historic Chicago Public Library, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Buckingham Fountain, and Cloudgate (the Bean). Our group stayed at the historic Palmer House Hotel and events took place at the Hilton Chicago.”

“All in all, it was a great trip! The students were afforded experiences they may not otherwise have had; some had their first airplane flight on this trip. I could not be more proud of these kids. Some of them have worked for several years to get to this point. A big thank you to my fellow CTE colleague Mindy Mayes and the parent chaperones who assisted on the trip. I would like to thank Dayton ISD and DHS administration, along with the CTE Department, for their unwavering support of this organization.”

Luter was also designated an Honor Advisor for 25 years of dedication and service to the student members of Business Professionals of America. She also serves as the Regional Advisor for Area 5, Region 1 and on the Texas Association Board as the Associate Division Representative; this is her eighth year with DHS BPA.
