Travis Keith Walker of Dayton passed away Sept. 13, at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. Keith was born on Feb. 13, 1959 in Pasadena, Texas, to Travis Delbert Walker and JoAnn Wright Walker of La Porte.

On Jan. 15, 2000, Keith, as he was known, married the love of his life, Kim Allen. Keith and Kim enjoyed life to the fullest. Whether it is was Harley rides, NASCAR, hunting, fishing, trail riding or simply enjoying each other’s company by a fire, they had a great time at it together.

Keith graduated from La Porte High School in 1978. He then began his career in the fire service by becoming a volunteer firefighter with the La Porte Fire Department. Keith received his Firefighter Certification upon completion of the world class firefighter training program at Texas A&M University. Volunteering would then become a full-time job when he was hired as a paid firefighter and spent his entire career with the City of La Porte Fire Department until his retirement in 2016. Keith also was very involved in the family businesses, Walker Sand and Highlands Stabilize, where he was extremely instrumental in the day to day operations. Throughout Keith’s life he served his community in many different ways. He enjoyed his time on the Liberty County Water Board, and he was a Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he volunteered 10 years on the Breeders Greeters Committee. Keith had a soft spot stray dogs. On more than a few occasions he brought home a dog that needed a meal and a nice place to sleep. His latest and arguably his favorite dog, Betty Lou found him however, and was by his side over these past few years offering comfort and support in only a way man’s best friend can. Keith and Kim spent years trail riding where they met many lifelong friends. Keith served as president of the Bandera Hill Country Trail Riders for a total of 8 years and always looked forward to their annual events and fellowship.

Keith was preceded in death by his father, Travis Delbert Walker. He is survived by his wife, Kim Walker of Dayton; his loving mother, Jo Ann Walker of Grapeland; his children, Travis J. Walker and wife Melanie of Pasadena, and Melissa Walker of Dayton; grandchildren, Brasen Walker, Jett Mahoney, Kyle Hargrove, Colton Whisenhunt, Emma Whisenhunt and Wesson Stringer; a sister, Rita Spitzenberger and husband Greg of Corpus Christi; a niece, Stephanie Ware and husband Gerren of Corpus Christi; and great niece and nephew Ellie and Hayden Ware of Corpus Christi.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Keith’s honor to the MD Anderson Prostate Cancer Research.
