Joseph Preston “J.P.” Williams Jr., 1933-2020
Joseph Preston “J.P.” Williams Jr., 86, of Liberty passed away on Jan. 13 at his residence. Joseph was born in Huntsville, Texas, on March 13, 1933 to parents Joseph Preston Williams Sr. and Dovie Nunley.
In 1952, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy. After being honorable discharged, he remained in the Reserves for several years. For over 30 years, he worked for AT&T as a repairman/line man. He also was a volunteer firefighter for City of Liberty for many years. Joseph loved to hunt, fish and read Western novels. He enjoyed traveling and camping. He loved his family immensely but most especially his grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife of 44 years Evelyn Williams. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Claude Allen Williams and wife Mae; daughter, Paula Dianne Arnold and husband Brian; daughter, Barbara Ellen Cantu and husband Oscar; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind numerous other loving family members and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, in the chapel at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis, Liberty, Texas 77575. A graveside service and committal will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, at Sweeney Cemetery in Sweeney.
