John William Ager, Jr.

John William Ager, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Devers, Texas, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

John was born on January 13, 1941, in Liberty, Texas, the son of John William Ager, Sr., and Alice Tom Farris-Ager. John graduated from Liberty High School and attended Blinn Junior College.

John spent his entire professional career of 38 years working for Enter Gas Company in both Beaumont and Liberty.

In his younger adult life, John especially enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. In addition to winning numerous local bowling tournaments, John carried a 202 average over a three- year period and once bowled a 290. John also was both of his sons’ first baseball coach and he coached each through senior league. Throughout his lifetime, John was a huge University of Texas sports fan, especially football. In March of 1990, John married Melinda Mead Barton and in April of 1990, they moved into their home in Devers, Texas, where they spent the next 34+ years together. John was preceded in death by his parents, John William Ager, Sr., and Alice Tom Farris-Ager, and his brother, Roger Quentin Ager.

John is survived by his wife Melinda Mead Barton- Ager; sister, Martha Goodwin Ager and husband Paul and their children, John and Leslie Goodwin; children Brad Ager, Tommy Ager and daughters Kayleigh and Kara Ager; Woody Barton and wife Gini and their children Mindy and Bobby; Ardith and Frank Mendel and their children Haley and Adon Mendell and numerous extended family.

The family held a celebration of life on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the home in Devers.
