John Patrick “Pat” Peebles

Pat Peebles passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the age of 74. Born June 10, 1950 to Tony and Elaine Peebles, in Livingston, Texas. Pat’s life was filled with love for his family and friends, laughter, and stories that could last a lifetime.

Pat attended grade school in Livingston, then moved to Liberty, Texas where he worked in his father’s auto parts store. He attended junior high and high school in Liberty, Texas and was active in FFA and high school athletics. He married Brenda (Gripon) Peebles in 1968.

Pat and Brenda attended Sam Houston State University, where Pat received a degree and teaching certificate in Agriculture. Pat worked for the Texas Department of Corrections at the Walls Unit in Huntsville, TX, during his time in college. After graduation they moved back to Liberty where he taught Agriculture for three years and had their two children, Laurie and Todd. In 1977 he

started his own oilfield vacuum service company (Oiler Vacuum) which he owned and operated for ten years. Following his time in the oilfi eld industry, Pat went back to work for the Texas Department of Corrections and ultimately the Windham School District which moved the family to Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1988. During his time with Windham School District, Pat served as the school CTE Teacher, Counselor, Principal, and Vocational Supervisor. He also earned his Masters Degree in Education from Sam Houston and his Mid-Management and Counselor’s certifications. Pat and Brenda returned to Livingston, Texas, during this time, and built their home on top of the hill at his family’s farm. He retired from Windham School District in 2011.

Pat was a farmer and an avid outdoorsman. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. As a father, he fostered a love of agriculture through involvement in 4H. He supported his kids in all their activities–from sports to theater. He continued this devotion as a grandfather and loved for his grandkids to come to the farm where he taught them to fish, shoot, and take care of farm animals.

Pat is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Peebles; his daughter, Laurie (Peebles) Zuehlke (spouse David Zuehlke); son Todd Peebles (spouse Laura Peebles); his grandchildren: John Samuel Zuehlke, Sloan Elise Zuehlke, Kara Standeffer (spouse Harrison), Andrew Ferguson, and Tommy Ferguson; his great granddaughter, Poppy Standeffer; his brother Rick Peebles; and his sister Mary (Peebles) Clymer (spouse Mike Clymer). Pat is preceded in death by his parents Tony and Elaine Peebles, his brother David Peebles, and his sister-in-law Sharon (Hill) Peebles. Many of his aunts, uncles, and cousins are from Polk County.

Pallbearers will be Mike Clymer, Todd Peebles, David Zuehlke, Sam Zuehlke, Andrew Ferguson and Thomas Mayo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Peebles and Tommy Ferguson.

Visitation was held at Cochran’s Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas, on Sunday, August 4. A celebration of Pat’s life was held at Cochran’s Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas, on Monday, August 5 followed by graveside service at Peebles Cemetery in Goodrich, Texas, with Gary Hargraves officiating.
