Inez Stewart Echols, affectionately known as "Mankie," was a remarkable woman rooted in faith, family, and community. Born in Moss Bluff, TX, she spent much of her life in Raywood, TX. She graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School in 1945 and later attended Prairie View A&M University.

In 1952, she married Ross Luranza Echols, with whom she had three sons: John Keith "Keyboy," Larry James "Wayne," and Ross Luranza, Jr. Inez was a dedicated teacher in Devers, TX for 36 years. She continued serving her community through board positions with the Liberty Teachers Federal Credit Union, Hull-Daisetta School Board, and Raywood Water Board.

A devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Inez contributed by sewing altar cloths and cooking for church events. She cherished the land, spending mornings tending to her family’s cattle and garden. At home, she was a master seamstress, a skilled cook, and even a pitmaster, preparing meals with fresh produce and baked goods.

Preceded in death by her husband, Ross, sons Wayne and John, and several siblings, Inez leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love. She is survived by her son, Ross L. Echols, Jr., her siblings Velma Trahan, Addie Walker, and James Stewart, her grandchildren Megan, Rebecca, John Martin, and Stefan, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
