Cora Beth Evans, 1937-2019
Graveside Services for Cora Beth Evans, 81, of Devers, will be held 4 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Cooke Memorial Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Elaine Banner. A celebration of life at the Evans Ranch will take place immediately following the service.
Cora Beth passed from this life on Monday, June 17, at home while surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 23, 1937 in Galveston to Andrew and Verdia Johnson.
Mrs. Evans was born and raised on the Bolivar Peninsula and lived there until she married the late Bobby Evans. The majority of her life after they were married was spent living in Devers. They were true soulmates and were married for over 50 years. Cora Beth was a strong and faithful Christian woman. She was a long time and very active member at the Devers United Methodist Church. She was very involved in many different organizations throughout her community, such as DAR, TVE, and Cattlewomen’s Association. As a young woman, she enjoyed being at the ranch. Prior to becoming, a mother she was also a PE teacher and coach at Hull Daisetta ISD.
Cora Beth’s greatest treasure in life was her family. She was their rock and foundation. No matter if it was Bobby’s rodeo career, Jim Bob’s sporting events, Nancy’s dance and ballet recitals, or anything that the grandkids were involved in, she was always there to support them when she was able. She was a sweet and kind woman who always had love to give to those around her. Cora Beth and Bobby tragically lost their daughter, Nancy, at a young age. Even throughout life’s ups and downs, she remained a shining example of faith and grace. Cora Beth had a special place in her heart for her beloved grandchildren who affectionately knew her as “CB.” Cora Beth will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Evans is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Evans; daughter, Nancy Evans; her parents, Andrew and Verdia Johnson; brother, Andrew Johnson Jr.; and a sister, Barbara Brister.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are a son, Jim Bob Evans and wife, Casey; sisters, Paula Maxey, Pauline Bouse; and her grandchildren, Luke, Kennedy, Reese and Hutton.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Cora Beth’s name to the Nancy Johnson Evans Humanitarian Scholarship at First Liberty National Bank.
