DAYTON – The schedule is set for Dayton Ole Tyme Days as city leaders approved the date and several street closures for the annual festival and scholarship fundraiser.

Event chairwoman Anna Smith asked the council to approve the April 12-14 weekend to avoid any conflict with the Dayton High School Prom this year.

During the conversation, the council discussed street closures and asked for assurances that all the area businesses in the downtown area were on board, following some issues with businesses in previous years.

“There are just some things that we need to be certain of,” Dayton City Manager Kimberly Judge told the council.

Some issues specifically addressed the carnival set up each year on Bryan Street.

Judge hoped to address all issues, especially those concerning the setup and safety of the carnival rides, which she said would be done by the city before any rides are open; otherwise, the carnival would not be able to operate.

Smith told the council she was ready to get those issues hammered out before the event.

Council also voted to approve the expenditure of $5,000 from the Hotel Tax toward the event, which organizers hope will help bring event goers from outside of the Dayton area.
