New Principals to lead Hull-Daisetta
Both Hull-Daisetta campuses will begin school under new leadership this semester. At the secondary campus, grades 7 through 12, the new principal is Kenneth ‘Jay’ Hayman. At the elementary campus the new principal is Dana Barrier.
Hayman comes to Bobcat Nation from Shepherd ISD where he was the assistant principal at the high school. He had served as an elementary school principal in Cuero before that. Hayman brings armfuls of experience to the table. Married to a math teacher with a couple of sons, he spent eight years in the Air Force before joining up with Boeing. His undergraduate work was in Political Science at Sam Houston in Huntsville, as is his masters’ degree. He has taught both social studies and science and coached pretty much every Texas high school sport.
At the elementary campus, the new principal is Dana Barrier. “Where we have been is not where we are headed. We have a great team in place and are ready for the challenges this year will present.” Barrier said. “We finished with about 280 students enrolled last spring and are looking for that number to be a little higher this fall.” She mentioned.
The Barrier family is very familiar to folks in the area. Her husband is Ned Barrier, the head football coach at Hardin. The Barriers are an education family of several generations on both sides of the family. Mrs. Barrier grew up in Warren and took her undergraduate degree at Lamar University. Her first teaching job was, in fact, at HD Elementary. She returned to the elementary school last year as the campus’s instructional coach and was a unanimous choice for the principals’ job when it opened at the end of last school year. She and Ned are the proud parents of two children.
