What An Axellent Idea
Liberty is about to enter the world of axe throwing, a burgeoning, family-friendly form of sports and entertainment spreading across the country like wildfire.
Chad Finch is bringing this unique entertainment concept with his newly constructed Liberty LumberjAXE facility at 2200 Doctor MLK Jr Dr.
The idea of axe throwing is similar to that of playing darts, but participants throw axes at large wooden targets instead of throwing a tiny little dart at a small dartboard. Axes are thrown from a distance of 12 ft. in designated areas of the building. Quality wood to throw the axes at is essential to the experience, which is why cottonwood and softer woods are used in top-notch axe-throwing facilities. Finch has his axe wood targets shipped in from Pennsylvania to ensure they are the best quality. Different games can be played, such as playing for a high score, tik tac toe and 21, to name a few.
Team members will continually monitor the lanes to ensure no one is overthrowing or getting too rambunctious to create a fun and energetic indoor activity for the whole family.
Finch will also have his Swamp Smoke food trailer on site, cooking up cajun comfort food such as boudin, gumbo, smothered steak and chicken, and of course, boiled crawfish when in season. It will feature a rotating menu full of surprise entrees and desserts.
In addition to axe throwing, there will be a live music stage outside, cornhole, beer and wine.
Finch grew up waiting tables at his mother’s bar, which made him want to get back into the entertainment industry. He saw the opportunity in his life and the need for quality entertainment locations in Liberty, and Finch realized there was no time like the present to seize his lifelong goal of owning a food and entertainment venue.
“I found what I feel is the right town. When I was at the city council meeting introducing them to my business concept here in town, one of the things I truly believe is that Liberty is a powder keg ready to explode, and it needs a spark. These two properties connect to make a really cool destination venue for a small town,” said Finch.
Liberty House, Finch’s event venue next door at 2208 Doctor MLK Jr Dr, was a former law office and has been completely redone, but with vintage hardwood floors and shiplap. It is designed for small weddings and parties but can also be used for corporate events, allowing guests to walk next door for some delicious food and axe throwing.
Liberty House is now open for small events and parties.
Liberty LumberjAXE is set to officially open during the first week of January next year, with some soft opens between now and then.
Finch also wanted to ensure everyone that axe throwing is safe and fun by saying,
“The one thing I would say is there is a realistic fear of the unknown regarding axe throwing. It is a new sport; conceptually, people can’t wrap their heads around it, but I would just like to welcome everybody to come in and try it, come in and see it. The place is amazing and really cool. It will be a great place to hang out and is family-friendly.”
