Vindicator celebrates 134 years!
Phillhower family takes ownership
On Dec. 9, 1887, Thomas Jefferson Chambers published the very first edition of The Vindicator. Since that time, The Vindicator has run without interruption and told the story of Liberty County’s people over the years. Since Chambers, the paper has undergone severaltransitions, from staff to ownership.
Now, as The Vindicator celebrates this newest milestone, we are proud to announce that we are under the leadership of a new owner, as Daniel Phillhower recently purchased the paper and its sister papers from the Chionsini family. Phillhower is not new to the company, as he has served as vice president of operations at Granite Publications since 2016.
“I am honored to be a part of Liberty County’s history and play a small role in keeping that history chronicled in The Vindicator. As one of our oldest newspapers in our group and in the State, it’s an honor to continue to serve in the communities of Liberty County,” said Phillhower.
Under Phillhower, the company is going through some changes to serve the community better, including a slightly rebranded name, Granite Media Partners.
Phillhower and his family live in Taylor, TX, home to Granite. His wife KatiAnn is a schoolteacher, and his two children Grace and Tanner, attend school there. Before his career in the news business, Phillhower worked in finance/ accounting, as well as real estate development and management
“We’ve established a strong team here at Granite with a motto of ‘ONE TEAM, ONE VISION, ONE GOAL.’ We plan to continue our efforts to grow our newspapers and serve our communities and customers well into the future,” said Phillhower.
