TEA releases grades on school districts
Following a long delay due to legal challenges, the Texas Education Agency finally released grades for districts across the state on Thursday.
The grades reflect the 2022-23 school year, but a legal challenge from over 100 Texas districts left that release in limbo as the courts heard arguments on using a letter grading system, much like the one used for students. There were no area districts involved with those legal challenges.
Ratings are based on STARR test scores and other benchmarks that reflect each district's performance. This is the first rating that has been released since significant changes to the STAAR test.
Now Liberty County's seven school districts have received grades ranging from an A for Devers Independent School District to a D for Cleveland ISD.
Devers outperformed all school districts in the county with a grade of 92 out of 100 possible points. It is worth noting they are the only school system that does not have a high school in the county.
Cleveland performed the lowest on the accountability scores, with 62 points.
Liberty, Dayton, Hardin and Hull-Daisetta ISDs all received a grade of C, while Tarkington ISD secured a B.
Liberty netted a 76, Dayton garnered 74, Hardin secured a 76 and Hull-Daisetta scored a 72.
Tarkington's B grade saw them get 81 out of 100 points.

We are reaching out to area districts for their responses on the latest round of ratings and will have more in next week's edition of The Vindicator.
