Women's History Month Highlight- Sherry Sikes
Sherry Sikes began her career as a part-time library assistant with Dayton in August of 1999. She quickly learned the Dewey Decimal System and how to process the new materials and prepare them for circulation.
Customer service was another duty she learned to enjoy, and in 2007, she took a full-time position.
Through the years following, she attended many workshops, training and annual conferences to continue to grow in her field. She learned much of her passion from Rose Klimitchek, the librarian she worked under. When Klimitchek retired in 2013, she was asked to become the new director of the Jones Public Library.
Thus, a new season in her life began. Through her new position in the library, she learned and trained her leadership skills to serve the community in better ways. She took college courses to obtain a Certified Library Support Certification from the American Library Association and continues to attend many webinars and other training sessions with the Texas State Library Association.
Sikes hopes to continue her work with the city and serve its community. Whether it is helping patrons find what information they are looking for, assisting with current technology devices or computer internet, or just being a kind face. It fulfills a place in her heart.
