27 Dresses Project hosts successful 16th annual event
LIBERTY — Organizers of the 27 Dresses Project recently rang in their 16th year at the helm of the local nonprofit, which allows the community to save big on the high costs of prom dresses and other formal wear.
This year’s event was held March 22-23 at the First United Methodist Church of Liberty’s Fellowship Hall.
The annual event has grown in popularity since its inception and has allowed Emily Cook and Hannah Taylor, who are the founders of the organization, the opportunity to help community members by providing a wide range of formal dresses for $50 or less.
“We had customers come from as far away as Richland,” said Taylor, adding that some customers traveled for close to four hours to shop at the event.
Taylor also added that she, along with fellow event organizers and volunteers, were able to point many of the shoppers in the direction of the popular Liberty Jubilee as they completed their dress shopping, as the 27 Dresses Project sale was held at the same time as the community event.
The 27 Dresses Project event helped dreams come true for 42 shoppers during this year’s event, allowing them to make memories in their chosen special dress.
All proceeds from the event go toward next year’s event and scholarships for students from local high schools.
