OPERA TO GO! Comes to Town!
OPERA TO GO! Is a fully staged, high energy 45-minute opera. Performances are sung in English, and designed with students in mind. This year’s OPERA TO GO! “ Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers,” is a Houston Grand Opera commissioned piece by Kamala Sankaram and David Johnston. Inspired by Indian and Chinese mythology and the Bollywood style, this hilarious fable demonstrates the power of teamwork as a pair of monkey siblings save their kingdom from the wicked tigers.
This year’s OPERA TO GO production was sponsored by the Fine Arts Society of Liberty, Texas (FASOLT). A morning performance was held in Liberty for students from Liberty Middle School and Devers Jr. High School on March 6, 2023. That afternoon, the show went on the road to do a performance at Hardin Jr. High School. Several hundred students were able to see their first Opera Performed at their school.
The Fine Arts Society of Liberty, Texas, a 501.C.3 organization, also awards scholarships to local students who will study The Arts in college, such as music, theatre, art, band, &cet.
