ANAHUAC— Since taking office early February 2023, Chambers County Tax Assessor-Collector Laurie Payton has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing the best service to county residents.

At the Chamber County Commissioners Court regular meeting on Tuesday, March 11, Payton was recognized by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for the outstanding performance of her and her staff in 2024.

Through the Performance Quality Recognition Program, Payton received the Driven to Serve Bronze Level Performance Quality Recognition Award for her office's exemplary work in customer service and in providing vehicle title and registration services.

"This award is a clear indicator of her dedication and commitment to public service, hard work and dedication," said Chuck Lee, vehicle titles and registration division assistant section director for regional service at the TxDMV.

Only seven of the 254 counties in Texas received recognition through this program. Since the program began in 2017, there have been a total of 10 gold, 10 silver and 23 bronze award recipients.

"Since taking office, she has worked tirelessly to improve the overall service provided to the citizens of Chambers County," Lee said. "Mrs. Payton employs a top-down approach to service, ensuring that her staff have all the tools they need to succeed. She is always ready to assist her team in any situation, which in turn empowers them to confidently serve the public."

Payton thanked Lee for the honor and recognized staff, saying the award was possible due to their hard work.

"The receipt of this award would not have been possible without the hard work of my staff," Payton said. "It takes a whole team. They're on the front line every day, eight hours a day. Every (title) transaction is different."

The program focuses on a variety of items based on industry best practices, including remitting fees on time; consistently applying statutes, rules and policies governing motor vehicle transactions; maintaining bonds required by statute or rule; performing efficiently and with low error rates; processing transactions in a timely fashion; having a fraud, waste and awareness program; focusing on customer satisfaction; and implementing cost-saving measures.
