Anahuac point guard Richard Smith dribbles the court in the Panthers' 108-39 loss on the road against the No. 1 state-ranked Kountze.

ANAHUAC – As it goes, sometimes, the points on the board and the standings don't accurately reflect how games are played, and in last Tuesday's game against Kountze, that was the case as Anahuac lost to the state-ranked Lions 108-39.

These Panther boys play with their hearts and pay with sweat, never giving up. Even with a monolith of a team like the Kountze Lions at the other end of the court, these fine young athletes played up to their challenge, matching speed and tempo.

Many more factors come into play in every game of every sport than points made. What counts in the end is the lesson of fair play in competition

The No. 1 team in Class 3A Kountze is 29-2 on the year and 11-0 in district; while Anahuac has not had as much luck this season, the Panthers hope to make hay over the remaining games.

The Panthers defeated Warren on Friday night by a score of 51-44 and they faced off with the consistently solid Orangefield on Tuesday after press time.

The Panthers entered this week 5-6 in District 22-3A competition in the fifth spot behind Buna, leaving Anahuac in the mix with two playoff spots remaining.

Now they will hit the road for the last two games of the year against Kirbyville on Friday and the closer against those pesky East Chambers Buccaneers next Tuesday night.

So, Panther fans, let's get out there and show some support for the black and gold as they close out the year. If every seat were filled with people who support the Panthers, no matter the location, these young athletes would be sure to give their all and hold their heads up high.
