Panthers beat Woodville at Silsbee Tournament

SILSBEE – The Anahuac Panthers competed in the Tiger Classic over the weekend and finished 1-1-1 at the tournament.

The Panthers started things off on Thursday with a 12-8 win over Woodville.

Anahuac jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning and a half.

The Eagles then put up eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to move in front 8-4.

The Panthers used their last at-bat in the fifth inning to score eight runs and move in front 12-8.

Tied at 8-8, Logan Trotter lifted a fly ball to right field with the bases loaded that was booted by the right fielder, allowing Oscar Garza, Eli Swonke, Derek Dominy and Trotter to give Anahuac the 12-8 win.

Blake Majors had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Dominy struck out four in getting the win in relief.

The Panthers then played Tarkington on Friday and it was another eight-run inning decided this one. Unfortunately, the Longhorns scored eight runs in the second frame to win 9-3.

Garza got the start for Anahuac and was tagged with the loss.

Trotter, Brayden Sutch and Blaedin Josephson all had hits for the Panthers.

On Saturday, Anahuac faced the host team in Silsbee and both teams finished six innings tied at eight apiece.

The Tigers led 3-1 entering the fifth inning when the Panthers struck for six runs.

Ty Wilcox had an RBI single in the frame, giving Anahuac a 7-3 advantage. In the top of the sixth inning, Luke Hoagland doubled home Sutch to increase Anahuac's lead to 8-3.

Silsbee scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score at 8-8.

Garza got the final out of the inning and the game ended in a tie. Garrett Cornelius pitched the first five innings and finished with two strikeouts.

Wilcox and Noah Smith each had two hits apiece.
