Lady Panthers earn district recognition
ANAHUAC – Their last playoff game against Diboll did not go how they wanted, but the Lady Panthers of Anahuac High School were honored with all-district recognitions on the volleyball court.
Meg Kreuzer, an all-around fan favorite, was named 22-3A District MVP. Kreuzer was recognized for her hitting and blocking skills and positive, energetic attitude. She is the player all coaches want to have on their team.
22-3A All-District First Team Lady Panthers are Ashton Rose and Abby Foster.
Foster is a setter and right-side hitter for the team. She often scored more than five kills per set and ranked in the top 50 in the district for aces served.
Rose is an outside hitter who picked up more digs than any other player on the team this season. Her energy and quickness often stole points from her opponents.
22-3A All-District Second Team Lady Panthers are Maylee Willcox and Cyann Cook.
Willcox is a hard-pounding outside hitter. She can hit down the line or cross court and put the ball away. She is a calm presence on the court, goes after the set, and makes the plays the coach calls.
Cook is another calming presence in a game. She watches for the signals from her coach and finds the holes to put the ball. Cook usually locates “the campfire” on the opponent’s side of the net and puts the ball on target.
22-3A All-District Honorable Mention Lady Panthers are Gabby Palacious, Callie Henike and Maddison Willis.
Palacious played the libero position all season. She picked up more serve receives than the other players. She had a high number of aces to her credit.
Henike came to varsity as a junior. She was one of the most coachable players, according to Coach Hart. She plays back row, and her quickness and fast responses led to amazing digs. Her passes were high so that the setter had time to get under them, which made her stand out in the back row. She is another Lady Panther with a positive attitude throughout the season, on and off the court.
Willis also came to varsity as a junior. She learned to play middle blocker and executed some timely blocks at crucial moments. She also made hard hits at the hit.
“The entire Anahuac community is proud of these Lady Panthers,” said Mark Pagels, a fan who did not miss a match or tournament all season. “I watched the team grow under Coach Hart and come together as a working unit. That matters. The girls lifted each other up when they were down and worked together. Volleyball is one of the best sports to watch. I am really looking forward to the 2025 season with only a few returners. It will be interesting to see what the coach can do with an almost blank slate.”
