Former BH teacher facing additional charges
MONT BELVIEU – A former Barbers Hill teacher who is already facing charges of an improper relationship between an educator and student was back behind bars last week.
Molly Colleen Spears, 35, was taken into custody on Feb. 27 after being charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child. She had previously been arrested on Feb. 11, a full year after she was initially indicted on a charge of an improper relationship with a student by a Chambers County grand jury.
Spears was bailed out shortly after her initial arrest on a $50,000 bond, and a new bond has been set for her new charges at $100,000 apiece.
According to information from the Mont Belvieu Police Department, the Chambers County District Attorney's Office requested investigative assistance from the MBPD Criminal Investigations Division. That investigation involved incidents that are said to have occurred in 2022 and 2023.
In a statement, District Attorney Cheryl Lieck applauded the cooperation from MBPD.
"Chambers County is blessed with law enforcement teams that care about kids and working together to ensure justice. My office is grateful for the collaboration exhibited here," Lieck said.
Barbers Hill Independent School District Superintendent Greg Poole, Ed stated after the initial arrest.
"Barbers Hill ISD was made aware of an allegation against the teacher in question and acted on that information immediately almost two years ago," Poole said. "The teacher in question resigned shortly thereafter, and we reported this to the proper authorities.
