Court approves plan for golf course improvements
ANAHUAC – Commissioners are heading into the home stretch of 2024, and they looked at design plans for the golf course and handled funding issues related to fire safety and EMS last week.
Chambers County Commissioners Court voted 2-1 Dec. 10 to hire W Golf Design for course planning and designing. With the absence of commissioners, Jimmy Gore and Ryan Dagley, County Judge Sylvia broke the 1-1 tie when Pct. 2 Commissioner Mark Tice voted for the motion and Pct. 3 Commissioner Tommy Hammond voting against.
The firm will plan and design new synthetic greens at Chambers County Golf Course. Budget for the entire project is $3.1 million.
In other matters during the 45-minute meeting, the court approved Driftwood Designs for the remodel of the library Tech building in Anahuac. The project includes adding a wall, pocket door, sheetrock and painting at a cost of $6,100.
The court also approved 2025 funding for the volunteer fire departments within the county - $100,000 each to Anahuac, Beach City, Cove, Oak Island-Double Bayou, Smith Point, Wallisville, Winnie-Stowell VFDs. Mont Belvieu VFD will be funded when the agreement is received by the county.
Commissioners also approved 2025 funding to Winnie-Stowell emergency medical services in the amount of $1 million. The other EMS locations are Chambers County departments.
All EMS locations are funded by the county’s Health Services program which is generated by a 1/2-cent sales tax across the county.
The court designated December 10, 2024 as Tree of Angels Day with the following proclamation:
“WHEREAS, when crimes occur, society must protect not only the rights of the accused, but also the rights of the victim; and
WHEREAS, recognizing that the holiday season is a difficult time for victims and their families. The Tree of Angels is a memorable tradition observed in Chambers County to recognize that the holiday season is a difficult time for victims and their families. The event will honor surviving victims of violent
crime and victims’ families by allowing loved ones to bring an angel to place on a special Christmas tree; and
“WHEREAS, all Chambers County recognizes the important work of all who commit themselves to assist crime victims and their loved ones. Traditions like the Tree of Angels reflect the kind and compassionate spirit of the holiday season and encourage us all to play a role in building safer, more just community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS that we the Commissioners Court of Chambers County, Texas do proclaim December 10, 2024 as Tree of Angels Day.
