DAISETTA – Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar; let's stand up and give our local youth cheerleaders a big holler.

The Anahuac Youth Sports Organization Cheerleading teams competed against other teams from the area in Hull-Daisetta Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Hull-Daisetta gym was a hive of activity between performances on Saturday. The teams are well-disciplined and taught precision movements, but little girls make a lot of noise. The gym was pinked out in honor of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

AYSO cheerleading has four divisions: freshmen, four- to five-year-olds; sophomores, six- to seven-year-olds; juniors, eight- to nine-year-olds; and seniors, 10–12-year-olds.

The girls cheer for AYSO football games. The sophomore, junior and senior teams competed at the event. Each team has at least one coach who teaches and practices with the girls three days a week, beginning two weeks after school starts each fall and continuing until the competition.

Freshman coaches are Lacey McCain, Yuna Martin and Kennie Mata. Sophomore coaches are Tiffany Finnex and Ashley Foster. Junior coaches are Tiffany Finnex and Griselda Munoz. Senior coach is Brittany Drake.

The girls pay for their uniforms, shoes and pom poms. AYSO provides hair bows and training. Sign-ups are held in May each year before the last day of school.
