AISD continues budget talks, hears project updates
Anahuac ISD Board of Trustees held a budget workshop and board meeting July 29 ahead of the new fiscal year and heard other housekeeping items with the new school year about to begin.
The discussion focused on increased compressed tax rates, with an estimated maximum compressed rate of 0.6169. The board is hoping to raise revenue for the district as well.
According to district officials, the new Anahuac Primary School is nearing completion in time for the upcoming school year. Teachers and staff are being moved in, and a final fire marshal inspection is set for Wednesday, Aug. 7, in hopes of approving full occupancy.
Leaders also heard about renovations at Anahuac Elementary, which are expected to be completed soon. The restrooms are in their final stages, and a canopy will be placed in front of the school.
The board hired Leah Boe as the new district librarian, Andrew Kier as district band director, and rehired Devan Gore as speech-language pathologist.
It was also noted that in light of the upcoming school year, First Baptist Church of Anahuac held a prayer walk on Sunday, Aug. 4, to pray over all AISD schools.
