BLOOD DRIVE

First United Methodist Church, Liberty, along with Life Share Blood Centers, will be hosting our second blood drive of 2024, Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 3 to 7 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall, 539 Main Street, Liberty. Anyone who has not donated whole blood in the last 56 days, or double red cells in the last 112 days, is eligible. By donating blood, you are truly giving the gift of life. CUB SCOUTS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS

Adventure is calling! Boys and girls ages 11 to 17 are invited to build an adventure with cub scouting. The Cub Scouting program is a yearround program that youth can join anytime. It is flexible enough to work with other programs in which youth might also be involved. There are six different categories, depending on grades, to which your youth will be in. Sign- up night is Monday, May 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at VFW Post 5621, 1520 N. Main St., Liberty. ANNUAL REDNECK COOK-OFF

Teagan is five years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia B-Cell on December 28, 2023. He has spent multiple days admitted and has begun his third phase of chemo. On Saturday, June 8, Teagan and his family will host a cook- off. The categories include fajita and mixed drink ($20 entry/fee), chicken, ribs, brisket, beans and chef’s choice ($100 fee) double- blind. A live auction will start after 5 p. m.; pulled pork plates with a drink will cost $15 at 11 a.m. All of these events will be located at 480 CR 6769, Dayton. SUMMER READING PROGRAM

EVENTS

The Austin Memorial Library has a summer reading program in June and July with many fun events for all ages! June 3 is the first of many events throughout the next two months. July 31 will be the last day of the event and the End of Summer Bash! There are other events for children of all ages and teenagers. 80’S NIGHT PURSE BINGO

Prepare to break out your leg warmers and neon attire for a rad event benefiting a great cause! Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center is thrilled to announce its 80’s Themed Purse Bingo on June 14 (18 and up) and June 15 (Family Night) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center. This groovy event promises an evening filled with fun, games, and fabulous prizes. Attendees will have the chance to win stylish purses while enjoying the nostalgic vibes of the 1980s. Silent and live auctions, photobooths, a live DJ and bingo will occur through the night. Tables for the event can be purchased by contacting Rachel Ansley at 936-258-0400 or by visiting their Facebook page. In addition to table sales, Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center is also seeking donations and sponsorships for the event. KIDS AT COLLEGE

Get ready for the Greatest Summer Experience ever! The Liberty Center is hosting a Kids at College Event with Lee College from June 24 to July 26. Some of the events they offer include sports camps, swimming lessons, outdoor adventures, STEM, Culinary, Cosmetology, Art, and Theater camps, just to name a few! SETX YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP If your kid is passionate about football and wants to advance their skills and fundamentals, this camp will provide the necessary tools to succeed. SETX Youth Football Camp will begin on July 27 at 9 a.m. and July 28 in Liberty County. This will be the first year the event will take place and hoping to gain momentum going forward. MT. CALVARY CLOTHING DRIVE Mt. Calvary Baptist Church is taking donations of student- size/style clothes for their annual back-to-school giveaway in July. They no longer give away adult clothes or household items but are returning to their program’s original intent. For more information, call 936-346-6244.

The City of Liberty has Coffee with the Mayor on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 a.m. in council chambers.

HARDIN ATHLETICS FUNDRAISER The Hardin Athletic Booster Club is hosting a gun raffle with a winner every week for 52 weeks. Tickets are $ 50 each, and only 1000 tickets are sold. COFFEE WITH CLEVELAND MAYOR Join the Mayor of Cleveland on the first Thursday of each month from 9–10 a. m. for a coffee and oneon- one conversation at The Crossing Coffee Shop at 125 N. San Jacinto Avenue in Cleveland, TX.

POPCORN FRIDAY

The Dayton Chamber of Commerce at 801 S. Cleveland St, Dayton, Texas, hosts a Popcorn Friday each week from 9 a. m. – 1 p.m. Stop by and meet your chamber staff while grabbing some free popcorn.

CONVERSATIONS & BREAKFAST Pastor Ken Davis from Calvary Baptist Church in Dayton invites everyone to talk to him or pray with him on Friday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mc-Donald’s. You bring the conversation, and he buys the breakfast. You are also more than welcome to send him a Facebook message to leave a prayer request for him.

SENIOR LUNCHEON

Every Tuesday-Friday at the Dayton Community Center, a free senior luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All are sponsored by Grace Initiative, Dayton’s Meals On Wheels. Call 936-258-6630 to sign up for a meal.

YARN CLUB

Every Tuesday, 11: 30 a. m. –1 p.m., the Yarn Club meets at the Dayton Community Center. There will be crocheting, quilting, knitt ing, cross stitch, embroidery, and almost anything you can think of with yarn! Call a Yarn Club member with questions at 281-385-5398.

INSIDE WALKING

Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.4 p. m., walk the inside air- conditioned hallway square/track ( 463 ft/0.088 miles) at the Dayton Community Center, 801 S Cleveland St.

SIT & BE FIT

There will be an indoor Senior Workout Class every Monday and Thursday, 12:30–1:15 p.m., at the Dayton Community, 801 S Cleveland St. For more information, call 936-258-6630.

SENIOR BRUNCH

Every Monday from 10 to 11 a. m. at 801 S. Cleveland St., Dayton, a light brunch will be served to all Seniors who attend. The type of food may vary depending on the volunteers and donations available. This will be at the Dayton Senior Center, 801 S. Cleveland St., Dayton. Be sure to sign up by noon the day before. FREE SENIOR BREAKFAST

On the Third Monday of each month at 10 a.m., there will be a free breakfast for Seniors. This event is hosted by South Liberty County, Meals on Wheels and Houston Food Bank. This will be held at 801 S. Cleveland St., Dayton.

SENIOR BINGO

After lunch, Senior Bingo will be on Wednesday and Friday at the Dayton Community Center. It is free for all seniors. For more information, call 936-258-6630 or email communitycenter@daytontx.org.

SENIOR POTLUCK

DOMINOS

The City of Dayton will host Dominos 42 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dayton Senior Center. If you are not into “42”, then bring some friends. There will be plenty of cards and dominos at the Senior Center. You can start a new group!

ENCOUNTER THE BLESSINGS!

Join us on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. to experience the move of God. Children’s Church, Youth and nursery provided. You can meet us at 1610 FM 2830 South in Raywood across from the airport (713-562-4447). It’s not Church as usual!

HARDIN SENIOR CITIZENS

The Hardin Senior Citizens meet at the Hardin Community Center each week, Tuesday-Friday. The center opens at 8:30 a.m. for anyone wanting a little breakfast at no charge or just to swing in to visit; for more information or to reserve your lunch, call 936- 298-3107. The Hardin Community Center is located at 414 CR 2010 in Hardin.

DAYTON OLD SCHOOL MUSEUM The Dayton Old School Museum is open to the public from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The museum is located at 111 W. Houston St. in Dayton.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY

The Family Church in Hardin hosts Celebrate Recovery, a weekly class every Friday at 7 p.m. If you know someone who needs this class, please share this information with them. This is a Bible- based recovery program for alcohol, drugs, codependency, anger management, etc. The Family Church is at 9456 HWY 146 N in Hardin, Texas.

AMES CITY COUNCIL MEETING As the city’s legislative branch of the City of Ames government, the City Council holds open public meetings where local laws, policies, and fundamental decisions are discussed and decided. City Council members are elected at large.
