A welfare concern called in to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 10:am Wednesday morning by concerned family members of 74 year old Verne Leroy Erdman later developed into a missing person report due to circumstances of Erdman’s absence from his home on RD 2687 in Rye, Texas. Responding Sheriff’s Deputy Reid Kenagy said that Erdman had left personal effects very neatly arranged in his home and was last seen walking into a wooded area near his home where a gunshot was later reported to have been heard. A preliminary search of the perimeter was conducted by Dep. Kenagy but the results were negative.
Read moreAt approximately 9:30pm Tuesday night, 32 year old Erika Rios Valdez was kidnapped from a residence at gun point by an acquaintance, identified as 38 year old Abel Fajardo. According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Lead Investigator Shandalynn Rhame, witnesses said that Valdez was in the process of parking and unhooking a food service trailer on CR 3404 in the Plum Grove area of North Liberty County when Fajardo drove up and forced Valdez into his pick-up truck at gun-point. As Fajardo fled the area, the brother of Valdez gave chase in his vehicle but eventually lost sight of Fajardo’s truck.

Read moreRecently five Liberty High School Choir members competed in the Texas Music Educators Association Pre-Area Auditions. This year, due to COVID, the auditions were pre-recorded and submitted to judges who selected the top eight singers in each voice part (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass). This was the second audition in a series of three auditions on the path to the Texas Small School All-State Choir. Nailah Donatto, a sophomore at Liberty High School, placed sixth chair qualifying her to advance to Area auditions which will be held in January.
